The type of motorcycle accident that has the highest rate of injury and fatalities is the head-on collision. This type of accident occurs the least often, but it is often the most catastrophic. A head-on accident happens when the front end of a motorcycle collides with the front end of a larger vehicle. Sideswipe accidents can cause very serious injuries both when the larger vehicle makes contact as well as when the motorcyclist swerves to avoid the larger vehicle but crashes into something else.
